Anyone who calls 877-OSCRIME (877-672-7463) with information about a crime is given a code number. Callers don’t have to tell who they are, just what they know. If the information results in an arrest or warrant being issued, the caller is eligible to receive a cash reward.

Sheriff’s reports:

During a scheduled saturation patrol April 11, 2024, a traffic stop was conducted on a 2011 Toyota passenger car for a traffic violation at milepost 161 on Interstate 35. During the stop, 2,000 fentanyl pills were located. Julio A. Casanovavega, 30, of Springdale, Ark., was arrested on suspicion of distribution of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, driving while license suspended or revoked, and a registration violation. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office thanked Junction City Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office for their participation in the saturation patrol.

At 8:58 a.m. April 12, 2024, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics search warrant at 115 N. Fourth St., Osage City. Two subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Jail on suspicion of the following charges: Douglas L. Hopper, 57, Osage City, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia; and Zachary J. Nichols, 39, Osage City, distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of stimulants greater than 10 dosage units, distribution of prescription only pills, distribution of marijuana, and distribution of drug paraphernalia. (Editor’s note: According to the Osage County Jail administrator, Hopper was arrested at the time, but was later released with charges pending.) The Osage City Police Department assisted in the search.
