Mind your p’s and q’s to prepare and qualify for annual senior orthography competition

Submitted by Osage County Senior Center Director Byron Jordan

The fourth annual Senior Spelling Bee will be held the evening of Oct. 10 at the Osage County Senior Center. This truly enjoyable event is open to Osage County residents 60 years of age and older.

Helping with the competition this year will be students from the Carbondale Attendance Center. A $1 registration fee is requested. Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers. Transportation will be available to and from the center that night. Study guides will be made available to registered contestants Oct. 7. To register, call the center at 785-528-4906 or stop by at 604 Market St., Osage City.

A great deal of appreciation goes out to those folks who attend the birthday dinners that are put on by the nutrition site the third Wednesday of each month. But, please keep in mind, lunches are served Monday through Friday at noon, and at $3 per meal, they are a bargain.

There are still openings on the bus trips to Chanute on Sept. 26 and to eat barbecue at Williamsburg the evening of Oct. 17. The tentative destination plan for the rider appreciation trip in October is to LeRoy, Kan., on Oct. 24. More information on this trip will be in the senior center news next week.
