OCPR Update: Training and certifications scheduled for upcoming pool season

Osage Parks and Recreation and the Osage City Aquatic Center are gearing up for the upcoming swimming season, with lifeguard training, water safety instructor certification, and lifeguard recertification.

Lifeguard Training

  • May 22, 1-6 p.m.
  • May 23 & 24, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $175
  • Instructor, Lynn Tice
  • Students MUST bring their own breathing mask
  • Students are REQUIRED to complete 7 class hours online, by the dates assigned
  • Blended learning course
  • Includes first aid & CPR
  • Attendance required each day
  • Must be 15 to take the class

Signup deadline May 10.


WSI Certification

  • May 27-31, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Cost is $175
  • Instructor, Lynn Tice
  • Blended Learning Course
  • Attendance Required Each Day
  • Students are REQUIRED to complete 7 class hours online, by the dates assigned
  • Must be 16 to take the class

Lifeguard Re-Certification

Program Revision – Guards are REQUIRED to complete online training by the dates listed

  • Cost is $85
  • May 18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • May 19, 1-5 p.m.

Osage City Aquatic Center

  • OCAC Pool Hours: May 25-August 11, Monday-Friday, 1-6 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
  • Daily Admission $4 (age 4 and older); age 3 and below free; age 55 and over free
  • OCAC Swim Pass Booklets
  • Swim booklets can be purchased at Osage City Hall, or will be on sale at OCAC starting May 25.
  • 50 Swim Card Booklet, $75
  • Deck and pool rental reservation can be made with Corey Linton, before May 25.
  • Deck and pool rental forms are available at Osage City, the City of Osage City Facebook Page or sent out by request.

Water Aerobics

Instructor Marcy Zerr

  • Tuesday and Thursday, 6-7 p.m.
  • Week of June 3 through the week of July 29
  • $3 per class or one swim card.

Osage City Swim Team

  • A swimmers age is their age on or before June 8, 2024.
  • A swimmer cannot be 19 before the age date.
  • Parent meeting, May 9, 5:30 p.m., OCAC; mandatory for BOTH swimmers and parents; swim suit sizing.
  • Parents and swimmers not attending, must meet with Michelle prior to the first practice.
  • Late signups may not be accepted.
  • Swim team pre-requisite: MUST be age 5 by June 8 and be able to swim the length of the OCAC Pool without assistance.
  • Swim team practice starts May 28; Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. or 8:30-9:30 a.m.
  • Alternate practice options, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Meet season, June 8, 15, 22, June 29, July 6
  • Lyndon, Burlington, Lebo, Overbrook, and Osage City.
  • Cost, $70 per swimmer.
  • “Practice swimmers” only, $35 per swimmer

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Group swim lesson forms available online at www.osagecity.com, the City of Osage City Facebook Page, and Osage City Hall. Starting May 25, swim lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

Group lesson #1, June 17-27

  • 10-10:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 1, Level 4, Level 5
  • 11-11:45, Pre-School, Level 2, Level 3
  • Cost, $30 per swimmer per session.

Signup deadline June 10.

Group Lesson #2, July 8-18

  • 10-10:45 a.m., pre-school, Level 1, Level 4, guard start.
  • 11-11:45 a.m., pre-school, Level 2, Level 3.
  • 12-12:30 p.m., parent tot (6 months-2 years), must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Cost, $30 per swimmer per session.

Signup deadline July 1.


Private Lessons

  • Session #1, June 10-20
  • Session #2, July 1-5
  • Session #3, July 12-26
  • OCAC staff will contact you about a time during the session selected.
  • Other times may be available (contact OCAC).
  • $45 per week, per swimmer (one week equals five 30-minute lessons).

Contact OCAC (starting May 25) to sign up.

  • Pre-school sessions, pre-K swimmers must be age 3 by the first day of class, to be enrolled in the session.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make.
  • Swim lessons are Monday-Thursday only.
  • Friday will be used as a make-up day (as needed).
  • Lessons will not be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees.

OCPR Tee-Ball

For children in Pre-K 3 and 4

  • Cost, $25 per player
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program.
  • Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A head coach is determined and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 3.
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.

Youth Football Camp

K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades

  • Grade is based on the 2024-2025 school year.
  • August 6-8, 7-8 p.m., Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades; 7-8:30 p.m., 3rd-6th tackle players.
  • $20 per player
  • Campers receive a T-shirt.

Signup deadline July 28.
