Rain, rain go away: It’s time to go fishing

The 16th annual Steve Cross Memorial Children’s Fishing Derby, hosted by Overbrook Parks and Recreation, is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Bob Klingler Children’s Fishing Pond, at Jones Park in Overbrook.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. for grades three and younger, and the group will fish from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.; registration for grades four through age 16 is at 9:15 a.m. and the group will fish 10-11:30 a.m.

Prizes for all will be distributed immediately following the conclusion of each session.

The derby honors Steve Cross, as he was an integral part of this derby since its inception and his contributions to it were big-hearted and priceless.

Contestants must be 16 years of age or younger. Rain date is May 4, 2024, at the same time.

A raffle is being held in conjunction with the derby, with prizes including a lifetime Kansas fishing and hunting license and a camping and fishing bundle. Tickets can be purchased at Overbrook City Hall.
