Overbrook Overlook: OPD advises to beware, springtime brings car burglaries

The Overbrook Police Department is reminding citizens that the number of vehicle burglaries traditionally rise in the spring and summer. Citizens are advised to always be sure to remove valuables from your vehicle and lock it. Did you know the Overbrook Police Department has certified child car seat safety technicians? If you need your children’s safety seats inspected or installed, call 785-665-7230 to make an appointment.

The date and time of Overbrook Municipal Court is changing. Court will now be held at 10:30 a.m. the third Friday of each month, with the change taking effect in May.

Feral cat program underway in community

The Overbrook community trap, neuter, and release program has complete training for trapping and care of feral cats in the community. For more information, or anybody who would like to be a part of the program, call 785-665-7230.

Overbrook Historical Society speakers

The Overbrook Historical Society 2024 speaker series continues with Jim Coffman sharing the story of the painting he created that depicts an early scene of downtown Overbrook, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Overbrook Public Library.

Beginning the series last month, George Blackwood was scheduled to speak about his heritage and bead work.

Mike O’Bryhim will finish the series at 6:30 p.m. June 27, when he will speak about his new book, “Once Upon a Time in the Land of Overbrook”.

Tree dump rules

Many people will be cleaning up their yards and citizens are advised of the guidelines for the city tree dump.

Only tree limbs and leaves may be dumped at the site. No plastic bags, furniture, rocks, construction material or logs bigger than 18 inches are allowed. A key can be picked up at city hall to unlock the gates to the dump.

Rotary Club seeks members

Overbrook Rotary Club Is looking for new members. Do you love your community? Do you have a heart of service? Interested in being a part of a great group of people? The club meets at 7 a.m. every Tuesday at TJ’s. Contact Derek Dahl at KSB for more information.

Overbrook Rural High School reunion May 25

The Overbrook Rural High School reunion will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Overbrook Public Library. ORHS High School alumni, students, former teachers and spouses are invited to attend. The informal gathering will be a time to visit and reminisce. Attendees are encouraged to bring old ORHS annuals, pictures and other memorabilia. Light refreshments will be served. Friends of the Library

Overbrook Friends of the Library is now accepting new and renewal members for the 2024 year. Forms can be found at the library, or contact Mary Anderson at 785-806-5613. The library is accepting gently used, in good shape books and puzzles for the annual book sale, which is scheduled for July 25, 26, 27.

Community nutrition program

The Overbrook Growth Committee, in conjunction with the East Central Kansas Area on Aging, is offering a nutrition program dedicated to meeting nutritional needs to citizens 60 years and older in Overbrook. The program provides hot meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the meals delivered to the Overbrook Housing Authority Community Center, 200 Oak St., where participants pick up their meals. Donation of $3.50 per meal is encouraged, however, no one will be denied if unable to donate. Overbrook Parks and Recreation
