Two suspects arrested after interstate pursuit with kids in car

Chase ends with tire deflating devices in Franklin County

OSAGE COUNTY, Kan. – Around 10:22 p.m. May 29, 2024, an Osage County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for a traffic violation near milepost 165 on Interstate 35. The vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The sheriff’s office reported the pursuit exited I-35 and went through Williamsburg and into rural Franklin County, where Franklin County deputies assisted. Tire deflating devices were utilized, and the vehicle came to a stop near Rock Creek Road and Delaware Road, in Franklin County.

Two suspects were arrested following the pursuit, including the driver, Carlos M. Gonzalez, 42, Wichita, Kan., who was booked into the Osage County Jail on charges of flee or attempt to elude law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving, three counts of aggravated endangering a child, driving while suspended third or subsequent conviction, several traffic violations, and an arrest warrant.

Passenger Mary I. Walker, 43, Wichita, was arrested on suspicion of interference with a law enforcement officer, and an arrest warrant.

Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells thanked Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the arrests and pursuit.
