Richard Jones Sr., 85, Burlingame: Nov. 8, 1938 – May 31, 2024

BURLINGAME, Kan. – Richard L. Jones Sr., 85, of Burlingame, Kan., passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Brookside Health and Rehab, Overbrook, Kan. He was born Nov. 8, 1938, at Burlingame, the son of Samuel E. and Margaret (King) Jones.

Richard attended Osage County grade schools and graduated from Osage City High School.

He worked for Sommer Bros Seed Company and Good Year Tire and Rubber Company, and retired from Hamm Quarries. He also farmed and raised livestock.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a 55 plus-year member of Fairplain Grange.

He married Dixie Renyer, Aug. 19, 1967. They shared more than 44 years of marriage before her passing Nov. 8, 2011. To this union two sons were born, Richard L. Jones Jr., Overbrook, and Samuel C. Jones, Lebo, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert E. Jones; and two sisters, Deloris Miles and Helen Atkins.

Surviving family are his two sons; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia; granddaughters, Kayla, Holly, Feryn and Baylea; grandsons, Chase, Riley and Carson Jones; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary K. Johnson, Topeka, Kan., and Margaret “Peggy” Whitener and husband, Harry, of Perry, Kan.; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and inurnment will be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Prairie Center Cemetery, 7757 W. 125th Street, Burlingame.
