OVERBROOK, Kan. – Kanza Rail-Trails Conservancy will hold a public informational meeting on building the next section of the Landon Trail, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19, at TJ’s Mainstreet Grill, 311 Maple St., Overbrook.
The conservancy is applying for a federal Recreational Trails Program grant, administered by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. If successful, the funds would be used to deck and rail bridges and install limestone screenings on the old railroad bed from Shawnee Heights Road to East 121st Street, in Osage County, a distance of 1.8 miles.
All interested persons and KRTC members are invited to attend.
KRTC reports that when this section of the Landon Trail is completed, 25 miles of the 38-mile trail will be open for the public’s enjoyment.
The Landon Trail is the only trail in America that connects the Santa Fe Trail with the Oregon Trail, and offers a variety of scenery and history.
