SHOSHONI, Wyo. – Roderick Dennis Catlin, a man full of love, life and quirky sense of humor, passed away Jan. 6, 2024. Rick was born June 4, 1950, on Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois, to Robert and Imogene (Green) Catlin.
After graduating from school, Rick worked for the railroad before joining the United States Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War. After his service, he retired to enjoy time breeding and raising his beloved champion Arabian horses.
During his many adventures and travels, he met his wife Deb, in Eugene, Ore., and settled down to the quiet life in Shoshoni, Wyo., with her and their two children, Rayna and Joshua.
Rick’s favorite pastimes were cooking out with family, leading hunting pack trips into the mountains and hunting with his faithful dogs, Horton, Charlie and Willow. His canine companions were dear to him. Other pets have stayed behind with Deb, but Horton, Willow and Charlie are on a long walk with him now.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dwayne Catlin; Mother, Imogene Iva Deal; sister, Debra Sue Neill; paternal grandparents, Shorty and Laura Catlin; and maternal grandparents, Marlin and Rosa Green.
Rick is survived by his wife, Deb, son, Joshua, and daughter, Rayna, all of the home; four grandchildren, Eden, Dalton, Destin and Daelyn; brother, Robert D. Catlin, Oklahoma City, Okla.; half-sister, Tonja Bentz, Joplin, Mo.; two aunts, Jerry Maxine Lloyd (Stan), Quenemo, Kan., and Juanita Fay Williams, Pawhuska, Okla.; three nieces and one nephew; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Alpine Cemetery, West 309th Street, on north side of Melvern Lake.
As Rick prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same – go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you. If you feel so moved, please join us with your memories or stories of Rick and the times you shared.
