Proud of your spelling skills? Show off at the senior spelling bee

Submitted by Osage County Senior Center Director Byron Jordan

We have some really neat events lined up for October and participation is a must for their success. Thursday night, Oct. 3, bingo games will be played at 6:30 at Osage County Senior Center to raise funds for Operation Christmas Child. There will be several great prizes to win along with the fun you would have playing bingo.

Signup for the senior spelling bee the evening of Oct. 10 has been really slow. The judges for this year’s bee are fifth-graders from Carbondale Attendance Center. To make it worthwhile to put this event on, we really need more contestants.

At 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Oct. 14, the Osage County Health Department will be here to give flu shots. It’s a trifecta vaccine, and will run $27 per shot. Medicare, Medicaid and supplemental insurance will be accepted with proof.

Thursday, Oct. 24, the general public transportation bus will head south to LeRoy with stops at Arnold’s Greenhouse, Luther’s Jerky USA, and the Barbies and More Doll Museum. Lunch will be at LeRoy’s Pizza Parlor. The requested donation for this trip is $10 per person. Call or stop by the center to sign up.

Sadly, but with anticipation, a personnel change has occurred at the center’s nutrition site. Ida Robb has resigned from the manager’s position, and Pat Oelke has signed on to be the new nutrition site manager. As they say, all good things come to an end, but we look forward to a new era with Pat. We wish both Ida and Pat only the best.
