Randy Eugene Harrison, 69, Vassar: July 18, 1955 – Oct. 14, 2024

VASSAR, Kan. – Randy Eugene Harrison, 69, of Vassar, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at his home. Randy was born July 18, 1955, in Kimball, Neb., the son of Eugene Roy Harrison and Patsy Lea (Hamilton) Harrison.

Randy was raised in rural Osage County, graduating from Santa Fe Trail High School, Carbondale, Kan., with the class of 1973. After high school graduation, he enrolled in and graduated from the police academy.

Randy began working in 1975 for the Osage County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer. He eventually left to become an officer with the Paola Police Department, and then returned to the Osage County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and patrol officer. As his health began to fail, he served as a jailer with Osage County until his retirement in 2021.

Randy loved his profession. On his days off of work he usually helped to cover neighboring police departments such as Overbrook and Lyndon. Then when he was home he would usually be found watching a television show on law enforcement. He did like to mix in the occasional western or Gunsmoke when a law enforcement show wasn’t able to be watched. When he was younger he enjoyed fishing but his mind was never far from his job. Serving his community was in Randy’s blood and he was proud to serve.

On Dec. 31, 1982, Randy was united in marriage to Marsha Morgan, in Paola, Kan. Marsha preceded Randy in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Karen Cartwright and Tammey Harrison.

Randy is survived by his daughter, Patty Johnson and her husband, Jim, of McKinney, Texas; son, Kelly Harrison, Williamsburg, Kan.; four sisters, Brenda Durkin and husband, David, Eureka, Kan., Kathy Pfannenstiel and husband, Steve, Topeka, Kan., Rhonda Newman, Eureka, and Kim Timmons and husband, Bob, Auburn, Kan.; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Grace Community Church, Overbrook, Kan. The family will meet with friends for a visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Overbrook.
