Dear Editor,
The saying goes, “If you build it, they will come”. The American Legion Harold “Skinny” Spatz Post 323, Lebo, Kan., is trying to do just that. The Lebo All Veteran’s Memorial is underway! The “they” are veterans who served, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great country the opportunity to be memorialized in bricks and tributes.
Our memorial is to honor all services, and all members are welcome. It will be a place to come and reflect and remember loved ones. We are installing a pavilion with tables and electricity for family members who want to come spend the day with family or have lunch in the memorial.
We as the community will have a wonderful transformation of a long-neglected area of our downtown. As a Legion it gives us a space to perform veteran ceremonies and involve the community. All are welcome to come and enjoy.
As with any endeavor this size we need support. We are currently accepting donations on many forms. We have a donation box at our post office in Lebo. Come join us at our breakfasts on the first Saturday of the month or bingo on the fourth Saturday of the month, and feel free to drop a donation in. We also have a memorial account at the Aliceville State Bank, in Lebo. Just walk in during business hours and tell them to put your donation in the All Veterans Memorial account; you can leave us your name or do it anonymously. All donations are tax deductible and the bank has the information. At legion events and the bank we will have brick forms if you want to have one placed in the memorial. We sure appreciate your help and support!
