USD 420 superintendent issues social media statement regarding threat situation

USD 420 Supt. Ted Hessong issued a statement through social media this afternoon regarding a student situation at Osage City High School today, April 29, 2025. The statement read as follows:

“Today a [high school] teacher reported to Mrs. [Natosha] Jenkins, the [high school] principal, that a [high school] student had made a verbal threat on another [high school] teacher. Mrs. Jenkins immediately intervened by having the student come to the office to do a threat assessment. While Mrs. Jenkins was doing the threat assessment with the student, the verbal threat was reported to our School Resource Officer and she put the building in a ‘soft’ lockdown to monitor movement within the building.

“During the threat assessment, Mrs. Jenkins and her staff determined that the verbal threat was not serious in nature. The [high school] teacher who reported the threat did the right thing in reporting the threat, and Mrs. Jenkins and the office staff followed the protocols to determine the threat to not be serious.

“The safety and security of the students and staff at Osage City Schools is a priority for the administration and school board. Today is an example of the protocols the district has in place to intervene to keep students and staff safe as possible.”
