Carbondale rescinds boil water advisory; water system restored

The city of Carbondale announced today, July 15, 2025, that the boil water advisory in effect since July 11 has been officially rescinded. The announcement said recent water quality tests conducted in coordination with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirm the water supply is safe for all normal uses. Residents can resume drinking and using tap water as usual without boiling.

A water line break near U.S. Highway 75 has affected the city’s water supply system and its users since Thursday evening, and KDHE put the city under a boil water advisory Friday.

The city’s announcement said no further issues are expected, but water users who notice unusual water conditions such as discoloration or odor are asked to report them directly to Carbondale City Hall, 785-836-7108, or at www.carbondaleks.com/contact-us.

The city also encouraged residents to remind friends and neighbors to report any concerns through these channels instead of relying on social media posts, as location and details are often missing online.

The announcement noted that the Carbondale City Council welcomes citizen feedback at its regular meetings, held on the first and third Monday of each month at city hall. All meetings include time for public comment.

“The City extends sincere thanks to all residents for their cooperation, conservation efforts, and support during this event.”
