The Melvern community is inviting everyone to town to celebrate the coming of fall Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025. The day’s fun includes an antique gas engine show, pedal tractor pull, disc golf tournament, quilt show and art walk, pie baking contest, and an evening musical performance.
The day’s festivities will also feature Melvern Riverfront Park and Trails with a ribbon cutting for the park’s new outdoor education center at 10 a.m., on North Pine Street, Melvern. Everyone is invited for the ceremony, and to sign up for hundreds of dollars in giveaways. Nature talks will be presented by Emporia State University professors following the ceremony.
For the pie baking contest, entries will be accepted from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Melvern Community Center. Judging begins at 12 p.m. Judges will be making their decisions based on taste and flavor, appearance, texture and consistency, and creativity. Recipes should be provided with each pie; no entry fee in lieu of sales of remaining slices of pie.
A pedal tractor pull will be open to kids and adults; competition starts at 10:30 a.m. in front of the community center. Winners of the kids’ competition will qualify for the state pedal pull competition at the Kansas State Fair. Adult competition will follow the kids tractor pull.
