Elsie E. Stout, 60, Lyndon: July 31, 1953 – Oct. 8, 2013

LYNDON-Elsie E. Stout, 60, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, in Topeka. She was born on July 31, 1953, in Emporia, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie Mozingo Hursh.

Elsie grew up in Gridley and had lived in Lyndon for the past 38 years.

Elsie graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Education degree. She taught social studies and science at Lyndon Middle School for 24 years, retiring this past May.

She was a member of the Gridley Christian Church, the Santa Fe Trail Quilters Guild, and the Janes. She had been the scorekeeper for the high school and middle school girls basketball and volleyball games at Lyndon since 1999.

On December 30, 1973, Elsie was united in marriage to John Stout, in Gridley.

Elsie was preceded in death by her father, Robert, and infant twin brothers, Matthew and Mark Hursh.

Elsie is survived by her husband, John, of the home; two sons, Robert Stout, of Lyndon, and Gregory Stout, Topeka; daughter, Kathryn Shepard, Lyndon; two sisters, Esther Hustead, Topeka, and Shelly Gibson, Wellsville; and granddaughter Abigail Stout, Osage City.

Funeral services for Elsie will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, southeast of Lyndon. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, in Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elsie Stout Memorial Fund for a scholarship and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
