K-278 mill and overlay project starts near Melvern Lake

The Kansas Department of Transportation scheduled a mill and overlay project to begin this week on state Highway 278, north of Melvern Lake, in Osage County. Work will begin at the Fairlawn Road intersection and proceed roughly three miles east to U.S. Highway 75.

Scheduled for Monday, March 30, traffic will be restricted to one lane in the active work area and directed by a pilot car and flaggers. Drivers should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.

Flaggers will also be used for approximately two days to direct traffic on U.S. 75 when work on K-278 reaches the junction. Work will occur Monday through Friday, and Saturdays as needed, during daylight hours. All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

APAC-Kansas Inc. Shears Division, of Hutchinson, Kan., is the prime contractor on the $383,000 project, which is expected to be complete in mid-April.
