Lyndon Carnegie Library is inviting everyone to join a discussion with Veda Rogers and her journey of editing the book A Grand Day: The Forgotten Voice of a Farm Woman through Dust, Depression, and War, 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2026.

The book by Louisa “Lulu” Ehrichs Schwanbeck is a collection of diaries that tells the individual story of one woman while also giving voice to the lives and experiences of countless women in 20th-century rural America that have often been forgotten to history. The stories include Schwanbeck’s time and experiences in Lyndon, Kan. and Osage County, and chronicle Schwanbeck’s life and work spanning the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War II. Melissa Walker provides an introduction in the book published by the University Press of Kansas.
Rogers is a former resident of Osage County and a former owner of Vassar Playhouse. Now retired, she lives in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
The book event will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, in the basement at Lyndon Carnegie Library, 127 E. Sixth St., Lyndon, Kan.
