The Lyndon Tigers football team added their second win in district play Friday night, beating Jayhawk-Linn High School in a 42-0 blowout.
Tigers coach Rod Stallbaumer said despite a few calls that went against Lyndon early, the team “didn’t get rattled and stayed focused and continued to execute.”
“I was happy with how we handled adversity,” Stallbaumer said.
Lyndon’s Josh Owens proved to be the game’s most valuable player, running in 4 of Lyndon’s 6 touchdowns – one a 93-yard run.
“The offensive line opened up some nice holes and Josh had another good night running the ball,” Stallbaumer said.
Other scorers in the game were Dawson Swinehart, with a first quarter TD on a 66-yard run, and Gaige Brecheisen, with the last touchdown of the game, a 17-yard run in the third quarter. Kicker Thore Piper added six PATs to Lyndon’s score.
The coach said his defensive team also had a good night.
“I feel like we have improved defensively each week and continued that trend tonight,’ Stallbaumer said. “We will need to continue to improve with a very important district game on the road at Oswego. They have played a tough schedule and are a very dangerous team.”
The Tigers, with a record of 2-0 in district play and 6-0 overall, face the Oswego Indians, 0-1, 1-5, Friday at Oswego.
