LYNDON – Walter “Ozzie” Osborn, 81, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was born on Dec. 20, 1931, in Melvern, the son of Harry and Audrey Feltner Osborn.
Ozzie had grown up in Melvern, graduating from Melvern High School in 1950. He lived in Melvern until moving to Lyndon in 1959, where he has lived since.
Ozzie served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He had worked for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement after 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 125, the Lyndon United Methodist Church, and the Santa Fe Old Timers, and a life member of the Euclid Lodge 101 A.F.& A.M.
On July 11, 1952, Ozzie was married to Dixie Wright in Fayetteville, Ark.
Ozzie was preceded in death by his wife Dixie on Dec. 18, 2007; a son, Tommy Osborn; and his sister, Jeannine Smith.
Ozzie is survived by his three sons, Terry (Terri) Osborn of Lebo, Tim (Debbie) Osborn, Penrose, Colo., and Todd Osborn, Vassar; his three daughters, Kim (Randy) Wilkins, Vassar, Sandy (Larry) Wigger, Lyndon, and Tammy Schemm , Ottawa; his friend and companion, Nancy Lord of Topeka; 10 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Oct. 29 at the Lyndon United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Alpine Cemetery near Melvern Lake.
