OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Walt D. Cowan, 65, of Osage City, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Walter Dale Cowan was born Jan. 2, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Royce Anner McCall Cowan and Nadine (Lee) Cowan.
He attended school in Missouri and Arizona, where he was a 1967 graduate of Casa Grande High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he was deployed to Vietnam. He faithfully served his country for 26 years, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He flew more than 275 missions while in the Army as an active duty serviceman, all the while accepting many challenges helping to keep his crew safe.
Walter was joined in marriage to Linda (Marks) Davidson on Sept. 9, 1977, in Topeka. They later moved to Osage City in 1979 where he continued to live until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; his mother, Nadine Cowan, Osage City; daughter, Kimberly Cowan, Burlingame; son, Todd (Jenifer) Davidson, Topeka; sister, Joyce Walker, of Arkansas; two brothers, Doyle Cowan, of Arizona, and Russell (Sharon) Cowan, of Osage City; five grandchildren, Shelby, Jacey, Hannah, Julia, Zachary, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and also a brother, Houston Cowan.
Services were Nov. 2, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Cremation followed with a private inurnment at a later date at Alpine Cemetery.
