Lyndon 5K raises funds to honor local families

111413-Winterfest5K_Proof20A new annual tradition has started in Lyndon.

Last year the Lyndon Pride decided to add a 5K walk/run to Lyndon’s successful Winter Festival event. Rather than host the race as a fundraiser for the group, the members decided that proceeds from the race would go annually to honor a local family or person.

The 2012 honoree was Kaleb Hobbs, a local child that tragically died in October 2011. The Hobbs family used the funds to purchase a bench at Lyndon’s City Park. The bench was dedicated in his honor this past May.

This year’s race will be in honor of Mary Ann Feltner. Feltner, who passed away in August, was a cherished member of the Lyndon community, and whose warmth and kindness was known by all. This event is intended to be a way for community members to come together to celebrate and honor Mary Ann.

Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the event. The second annual Lyndon Winter Festival Road race is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 a.m. Dec, 7. Registration is $20 for adults and includes a commemorative T-shirt and post race refreshments. Discounted registration of $15 is available for students and seniors 65 and over. Register by Nov. 22 to guarantee a shirt. For more information or registration visit the city of Lyndon’s website at  www.LyndonKS.gov.
