A Harveyville woman died Saturday in a single-car accident on U.S. Highway 56 east of Overbrook.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Iva A. Tomlinson, 63, Harveyville, died in the accident that occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Douglas County, 5.7 miles east of Overbrook.

According to the report, George Tomlinson III, 69, Harveyville, was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra westbound on U.S. 56, when he moved to the right side of his lane to give room to two eastbound vehicles hugging the center line. The passenger side wheels of the Toyota dropped off of the road and the vehicle entered the ditch. The vehicle then ran into a field access culvert, went airborne, landed on the front bumper area and flipped and came to rest on the driver’s side.

Iva Tomlinson died at the scene; George Tomlinson was injured and transported to KU Medical Center. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
