Senior center strives to meet citizens’ needs

Submitted by Osage County Senior Center Director Byron Jordan

Due to a recent situation, I think it’s necessary to provide Osage County citizens with procedural information on filing complaints regarding the senior center, public transit service, or the nutrition site.

As director, I urge patrons to come to me with criticism or complaints on any matter, whether it is about an activity, an event, a staff member, or a physical plant issue. If the person is not comfortable with doing that, the matter can be brought to the attention of the Osage County Council on Aging, which meets in a public forum at the center on the second Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. Clinton Vawter, of Carbondale, is the chairperson for this council. No appointment or time reservation is necessary, but I would urge you to come towards the beginning of the meeting since some of the meetings are short in nature.

Of course, going to the county commission is another option, but is usually considered the second or third step in the process. You would need to contact the county clerk for scheduling information.

We strive to meet the needs of the general public, and always do our very best to operate the center in an efficient, safe and satisfactory manner. We absolutely do not deny or restrict access to the center and its activities or discriminate in any way in providing services to the citizens of this county.

The saying goes, “you can’t please everyone,” but we truly try to.
