LYNDON – Norma Jean Vanderslice, 82, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Manor Care of Topeka. She was born on Oct. 25, 1931, in Overbrook, the daughter of Otto and Hulda Poertner Weiss.
Norma lived in Lyndon most of her life, but had lived in Phoenix, Ariz., from 1985 until 2001, when she moved back to Lyndon.
Norma attended the Gregory School and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1949. She worked for Victory Life in Topeka and the Lyndon State Bank. While in Arizona, she worked for the Mera Bank and Bank of America. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Lyndon American Legion Auxiliary.
On December 9, 1951, Norma was married to Robert “Bob” Vanderslice, in Vassar.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hulda; a brother, Erven “Bud” Weiss; two sisters, Velma “Sis” Schmutte and husband, Lester, and Ruby Wiley and husband, Keith; a nephew, Bob Wiley; a niece, Mary Ann Weiss; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ina and Bob Rake.
Norma is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home; her two children, Richard “Rick” Vanderslice and wife, Bev, of Overland Park, and Karen Bissell and husband, Ben, of Hillsboro, Mo..; four grandsons, Josh, Jake, Zach and Matthew, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Norma will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar, with burial in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon, and then one hour before services on Friday at the church.
