Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn has advised that a wolf or hybrid wolf was sighted in an area north of Osage City near U.S. Highway 56 last Sunday, Dec. 15.

Anyone who sees an animal resembling a wolf is asked to contact the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at 911 or 785-828-3121 with the location, and as soon as possible. 

While it is unknown if this wolf is aggressive, Dunn advises caution should be used if it is located. She also advises against shooting at the wolf, as it is prohibited to shoot an animal unless livestock or human life is in danger. The sheriff noted that possession of a wolf or wolf hybrid violates an Osage County resolution, and anyone who finds the animal will not be able to keep it.
