Students at Osage City Elementary School collected goods that will help a local charity help others during this holiday season.
In conjunction with the K-Kids Giving Boxes program, OCES kindergarten through fifth-grade students collected 981 non-perishable items, such as pancake syrup and mix, and instant mashed potatoes, and personal hygiene items such as toilet paper, shampoo and soap.
As the class that collected the most items during the two-week donation period, Marilynn Davies’ kindergarten class was awarded a pizza party, sponsored by K-Kids. Her students gave 92 food pantry or personal hygiene items, which earned them a pizza party that was scheduled for Dec. 20.
All items were donated to Ecumenical Christian Action Team, which provides assistance for those in need.
K-Kids, or Kiwanis Kids, is a student-led community-service club for elementary-age students that teaches members the value of helping others through participation in service projects.
