BURLINGTON, Kan. – Barbara Sue Privat, 82, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, at Life Care Center of Burlington, Burlington, Kan. She was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Piggott, Ark., the daughter of Howard and Eva (Banks) Bell.
Barbara grew up in Times Beach, Mo., but had lived most of her life in Melvern, Kan. She had been in Burlington for the last three years.
Barbara had worked at BETO Junction as a baker of cinnamon rolls and then worked in housekeeping for Holthaus Motors, Osage City, Kan.
Barbara was united in marriage to Laryl Privat Sr., May 27, 1967, in Times Beach. To this union three sons were born, Laryl “Larry” Jr., Russell “Rusty”, and Clifford.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Laryl, on Sept. 4, 2015; her parents, Howard and Eva; sister, Janice Fleer; and daughter-in-law, Lori Privat, Oct. 19, 2023.
Barbara is survived by her three sons, Laryl “Larry” Privat Jr., Melvern, Russell “Rusty” Privat (Palmira Stewart), Melvern, and Clifford Privat, of Nebraska; brother, Howard Bell Jr., Union, Mo.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will gather 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Melvern Community Center, 102 N. Main St., Melvern, Kan. A celebration of life will be at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Melvern Cemetery.
